Under Nevada Skies - 1946 - Frank McDonald

"Under Nevada Skies"
1946
Directed by Frank McDonald
Starring Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, and George "Gabby" Hayes

Roy Rogers, aided by Helen Williams (Dale Evans), the Pioneers, Gabby Whittaker, and a band of local Indians, investigates the murder of a beloved trading post owner. The case is more than it seems to be, and Roy finds himself in a search for an unknown and dangerous heirloom.

"Under Nevada Skies" is one of the very best of Roy and Dale's films together. It has plenty of great singing from Roy and the Pioneers, and Dale gets a chance to show off her skill too with "I Wanna Go West, Young Man". Additionally, this film contains one of the best of all Roy's movie songs "Any Time That I'm with You". Roy and Dale also have their typical sparring that doesn't fail to put a smile on their audience's face. (Their sarcastic back and forth encounters would be showcased best in the later film "Heldorado") There is also a good deal of humor from Gabby, who manages to steal entire scenes, as usual.

Once again, here are the songs from the movie. All public domain, so feel free to download.

You're probably right, Lasso. :) All the same I grew up watching that kind of B-Western and have never outgrown them. There's something magical about them! :num1 Roy Rogers, Buster Crabbe, the Lone Ranger; I love all of those B-Western cowboys. I guess you could say in a way they're still my heroes. A little part inside all of us never grows up completely, I guess! :D

Here are the song lyrics found in "Under Nevada Skies". A little bit of the Spanish lyrics may not be exactly correct, but I'm pretty sure I got them right for the most part.

Ne Ha Nee:

Long ago,
'Twas here I know,
Lived the fairest Indian maid,
Daughter of a chieftain brave,
Here beside the lake she stayed.

Far and near,
The waters clear,
Blessed her from their deep domain,
Blessed her with this lovely name,
They blessed her with this lovely name.

Ne Ha Nee,
It must be,
She is heaven's daughter,
For her eyes,
And the skies,
Warm the lake's clear water,
[Clear water]

Far along the shimmerin' shoals,
The shallow waters clear,
Echo to her lovely voice,
As she is drawing near.

See her smile,
All the while,
For the sunbeams taught her,
To be gay,
All the way,
Ne Ha Nee, clear water,
Clear water.

Ne Ha Nee,
Ne Ha Nee.

I Wanna Go West, Young Man!

An old, old lady from New York town,
Goes to see a western movie everyday,
And though her knowledge of the West is zero,
Still she wrote her favorite cowboy hero,
And here's exactly what she had to say.
"I wanna go West, young man."

I wanna go West, young man,
I wanna see the deer out in Buffalo,
Those trail-herdin' cowboys with legs that bow,
Just let me listen to the saddle horns blow,
I wanna go West.

I wanna go West, young man,
I wanna see the smoke when a five-gun shoots,
To meet all the rangers in fur-pant suits,
I wanna see men in platform boots,
I wanna go West.

Oh, let me ride the lone prairie,
Uh-lo-ho-dee,
With my little dogie a'barkin' at my side,
Just let me see a cactus tree,
Uh-lo-ho-dee,
And I'm dyin' to cross the great divide.

Now, I wanna go West, young man,
I wanna rope corrals with my ol' lassoo,
To ride in Chuck's wagon with him there too,
Just let me live like the rustlers do,
I wanna go West.

Oh, I wanna go West, young man,
I wanna play gitar with a range quartet,
To ride 'cross the desert when the sun is set,
I wanna eat where Larry et,
I wanna go West, young man,
I wanna go West!!!!

Under Nevada Skies:

I'm lazy,
I'm lazy,
No city life for me,
No siree,
I've found a paradise,
Under Nevada skies.
I'm happy,
So happy,
I'm feelin' fancy free,
Yes siree,
You'll find my reason lies,
Under Nevada skies.

I love the wind a'blowin',
The herd a'lowin',
A song or two beside a campfire's gleam,
I love the smell of bacon,
Coffee in the makin',
Take it from me,
That's a cowboy's dream,
Why worry,
Why hurry,
The only place to be,
Yes siree,
Is there before your eyes,
Under Nevada skies.

Sea-Goin' Cowboy:

[Rope that main-sail,
Brand the deck,
Ride that gangplank,]
-Crazy laugh-

[I'm ....a sea goin' cowboy,
I ride the waves,
I ride the rollin' sea,
Heave ho, me lads, heave ho.]
Heave ho!
[I'm a rough-ridin' pirate,
I have me slaves,
They all belong to me,
Heave ho, me lads, heave ho.]
Heave ho!

We sold our saddles,
We sold our spurs,
We quit herdin' cattle,
We hate the curves,
Ho, me lads, heave ho, heave ho,
Heave ho, me lads, heave ho.

Oh, give me a home,
On the billowy foam,
Where the dearest of mermaids play,
Where always is heard,
This encouraging word,
Ho, me lads, heave ho,
Heave ho!

[You .... can send all your dogies to Davy Jones an' lock them up below,]
Heave ho, me lads, heave ho,
Heave ho!
[You can have all your broncos and blast their bones,
I know where they can go,]
Heave ho, me lads, heave ho,
Heave ho!

The sage that's bloomin',
The cactus plants,
All give me a pain in the seat of me pants,
Ho, me lads, heave ho, heave ho,
Heave ho, me lads,
He-e-e-eave, heave ho,
Heave ho!

Any Time that I'm with You:

Let the hours fly,
Let the time roll by,
I don't worry with my point of view,
Morning, noon, or night,
Everything is right,
Anytime that I'm with you.

Days go racing past,
Traveling much too fast,
People always searchin' somethin' new,
Seasons come and go,
I'm content I know,
Anytime that I'm with you.

Time doesn't have any meaning,
Except and when you're away,
Then each moment is like an hour,
Each hour just like a day.

But let the hands go 'round,
With their tick-tock sound,
Never mind we'll find a lot to do,
Just forget the clock,
And the tick-tick-tock,
Anytime that I'm with you.

Nada mia en por te la vida,
Si la de vivir sin ti,
Nunca te olvidare mi amor,
Pues por re rey por tu amor,
Si tu mia que quere,
Yo qui adora ve,
Nunca, nunca te olvidare,
Recuerda que tu,
Eres para mi,
Toda un la felicidad.

Anytime that I'm with you.
