In Old Caliente - 1939 - Joseph Kane

Messagepar Little One » 19 nov. 2015 20:48

"In Old Caliente"
1939
Directed by Joseph Kane
Starring Roy Rogers, Lynne Roberts, and George "Gabby" Hayes

This Roy Rogers film is unique in its setting, as it takes place in a Hispanic community in old California. Roy's outfit is different than normal, too. He wears his typical costume of a cowboy shirt, two six-shooters, and a hat, but his ensemble has a Spanish flair. His shirt is trimmed with some sort of silver, and he wears a concho belt.

The plot line of the story is Roy's fight to keep new white settlers from being convicted of robbery and harassed, and his struggle to maintain his close relationship with Señor Vargas, the owner of a large rancho and a father figure to Roy. Roy manages to pull this off in the usual 50 something minutes and win the hand of pretty Jean (Lynne Roberts), too.

This film is notable for its fun music, beautiful scenery and costumes, and sweet little romance. Roy and Lynne Roberts were a great acting team known as the "Sweethearts of the West".

I uploaded the music from the film to a website. Here are the links to the songs. Let me know if the links work. Feel free to download the songs, as they are all public domain. I hope you enjoy them!

My pleasure, Lasso. I will add more over time. If there are any in particular of Roy's movie songs that you want, just let me know. I probably have them and will try to do them next.
I do so love my Roy Rogers music collection and wanted others to be able to enjoy how wonderful they are, too.

I have the written lyrics to the songs, as well. So if anyone wants those, just let me know, and I will post them.

These are the lyrics to the songs from "In Old Caliente".

Vaquero:

Our cattle she is sold, vaquero,
Our bags are filled with gold, vaquero,
Don't let your heart grow cold, vaquero,
The moon she will be shining tonight.

Side by side, let us ride 'neath the skylight,
Let the sun fill our songs full of leather,
{Short yips}
We'll be home in the shade of the twilight,
Vaquero.

A señorita sighs, vaquero,
With lovelight in her eyes, vaquero,
And under starry skies, vaquero,
The moon she will be shining tonight.

Ride each mile with a smile, mi amigo,
Sing your song as you ride 'long the prairie,
{Short yips}
"Clear the way," hearts are saying as we go,
Vaquero.

And soon the trail must end, vaquero,
The sun she will descend, vaquero,
Love waits, so why pretend, vaquero,
The moon she will be shining tonight,
Tonight,
Tonight,
Tonight.

Ride On, Vaquero:

From where you are,
You hear that dreamy guitar,
Melody seems to say,
"Ride on, vaquero."

To do and dare,
You go with never a care,
Singing while on your way,
"Ride on, vaquero."

I'll return,
The hacienda is home,
How I yearn,
For those I love, everytime I roam.

My skies are blue,
My señorita is true,
Saying a prayer for you,
"Ride on, vaquero."

Sundown on the Rangeland:

Sundown on the rangelan',
An' we're headin' down the trail,
Git along, ol' pal,
To the big corral,
While the trail is light.
Sundown on the rangelan',
An' the herd is lookin' frail,
Here that maverick bawl,
He'll be missin' his ma,
Tonight.

Loh-oh-tee, oh-oh-tee,
Joggin' across the plains,
Loh-oh-tee, oh-oh-tee,
To the squeakin' of the saddle an' the rattlin' reins.

Sundown on the rangelan',
Now the sky is lookin' pale,
Git along, git along, git along ol' pal,
Down the trail.

We're Not Comin' Out Tonight:

Mucho gracias, señorita,
But we're not comin' out to dance tonight,
Oh, I must admit I'd love it,
(But there's vino, plenty of it!)
[An' we're not comin' out,
We're not comin' out tonight.]

Let each cavallero take his share of freedom,
(In the meantime serve the eats 'cause we sure need 'em,)
You'll be sorry, señorita,
['Cause we're not comin' out to dance tonight.]

If they want us, señorita,
They'd be fools if they took a chance tonight.
'Cause we're two impatient critters,
(Mister, all's not gold that glitters!)
[An' we're not comin' out,
We're not comin' out tonight.]

Tell, the major-domo he'll be thirty-eighted,
(An' we're sure the skunks an' him are all related,)
Mucho gracias, señorita,
But we're not comin' out to dance tonight.

[We're not comin' out,
We're not comin' out tonight!]

Thank you, Sitting Bull! I'd forgotten just how much I love that scene. It's so picturesque and happy and Roy's horse, Trigger, is absolutely stunning. I love the way he canters elegantly along with his beautiful mane lightly swaying.

That clip is an awesome addition to this film thread. Thank you so much! :num1
