Civil War News - Topps Trading Cards (1962)

Messagepar Daniel » 17 mai 2010 12:11

Civil War News was a set of collectible trading cards issued in the early 1960s by Topps. The set featured the colorful artwork of Norm Saunders, as well as three other artists, and was characterized by vivid colors; graphic depictions of violence, death, and blood (number 21 "Painful Death" being a prime example) and exaggerations of warfare. On the reverse, each card contained a brief history of a campaign, battle, or person presented in a newspaper article like fashion, complete with headline.

The complete set consists of 88 cards, including a checklist, and was first printed for the United States market in 1962 to coincide with the centennial of the Civil War. Widely collected and valued among collectors (aside from some bulk warehouse finds of cards in mint condition), the Civil War News cards were originally rejected by parents for their portrayals of violence (despite the cards' perceived educational value).

These are my own personal cards. The condition of the cards vary between good to excellent, with some touched corners but generally they are in overall very good condition with good color...

Here, you’ll find regular the Civil War News Cards... The first set is the story on John Brown (May 9, 1800 – December 2, 1859) was an American abolitionist, who advocated and practiced armed insurrection as a means to end all slavery. He led and made his name in the unsuccessful raid at Harpers Ferry in 1859.

En fait, ce sont une série de cartes relatant la guerre de Sécession sortie sur le marché en 1962. Vous verrez 87 desseins de Norm Saunders qui viennent appuyer de véritables articles de presse sur les évements de cette terrible guerre.

Card number # 2... Jefferson Finis Davis (June 3, 1808 – December 6, 1889) was an American military officer, statesman and leader of the Confederacy during the American Civil War, serving as the President of the Confederate States of America for its entire history, 1861 to 1865.
